About Mikayla

Our miracle

Mikayla was diagnosed with DIPG, a rare and aggressive childhood brain cancer, at age four in December 2017. She lived nearly eight more years, far longer than anyone expected, and celebrated her 12th birthday in August 2025.

Through radiation, countless medicines and a life full of limits, she stayed brave, kind and positive. She wanted to help other children, and to make brain cancer a little less frightening for them.

This book continues her legacy, comforting and encouraging others with open arms and a big smile.

The heart of the book

Death is not something to fear. Mikayla went beyond the limits of medicine and lived fully and bravely.

Through painful treatments, countless medications, increasing physical limitations, and finally facing the end:
